Please feel free to use this forum to post information about additional international child abduction cases.
We are especially interested in cases involving Brazil, we are told that there are currently 50 abduction cases in Brazil and we know it is not complying with the terms of the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
Many left behind parents, including David Goldman, are initially reluctant to publicize a very private matter. While we can all understand their reluctance, in cases involving Brazil we now know that this is the wrong approach.
In Brazil the application and enforcement of the Hague Convention is "rigged" in favor of Brazilian citizens, affording the abducting parent continual legal opportunities in different levels of the judicial system to delay the repatriation of a child. The process is extremely slow in Brazil which results in the standard ridiculous decisions made by lower courts that the child has been "assimilated" into society and should not be returned.
Frankly the Brazilian system is an abomination, totally out of compliance with their obligations under the Hague Convention and an effrontery to ethics and morality. Most of all it causes irreparable damage to the child.
It is our hope that by learning of other cases in Brazil and other countries, we - altogether, can offer assistance and apply pressure to bring every child home.
