Hello, everyone. This is my first post here. My four year old was kidnapped to Peru by his Peruvian father in 1986 during divorce proceedings where he often broke in at night, tore the phone from the wall and held me at gunpoint. My son was hidden in Peru for a year and a half before I was able to find and recover him, through a series of what still seem like miracles. A felony warrant (it was a third degree felony at the time of his offense) was issued for the abductor's arrest in the summer of 1987.
It's an old case, but they finally picked the abductor up in Miami last December, he was extradited to Texas, and there's going to be a trial in Houston! I am walking on air!
I've researched a little, and it seems these cases don't come to trial that much because the abducting parent usually does not return to the U.S...
I would like this trial to also serve other families who've suffered from one of these abductions. I am afraid to say too much about the case at this point, except that I would welcome any advice for how I might make this new turn helpful not only to myself, but to others.
I also wonder if there is some sort of "victims of international child abduction group" in Houston that I might not be able to get in touch with before I go there as a witness?
Best wishes to you all,
Victoria
