REPOSTING FROM SMEAR CAMPAIGN THREAD:

One definition of a smear campaign is “an effective, if destructive, political tool that casts an important shadow of doubt over a person's moral and personal integrity...a well conducted smear campaign can help you chip away at your opponent's image, no matter how good his or her reputation might be.”

They say, “One of the best ways to ensure a smear campaign's success is getting the accused party to respond to the accusations.”

With that in mind, perhaps the best approach this community can take in response to LeS’s smear campaign tactics is to remain aware and informed of their activities, but do not allow them to distract us. Time and energy we spend focused on and reacting to the negative aspects of these stories might be better spent writing letters, making phone calls or creating new positive initiates in support of David.

Let’s remain positive and focused on doing all that we can to expedite Sean’s home coming!!

I second that!!!!!:D

I agree too!
If we keep trying to challenge all the nonsense that's been publish so far by the Brazilian media (mainly Organizações Globo), by sending angry e-mails and the like, will only give them (LES and Bruna's family) more ammunition to fire back at our own efforts. It's their home turf, unfortunately. They can (and will) spin to their own advantage. They know they are loosing ground that's why their PR machine is firing up.
We cannot loose focus and our energy. We need both so we hit the right targets with precision!

Roger,

You're right. As I posted this, I realized that my concerns are that people are responding emotionally. I guess I'm just trying to ask people to be thoughtful in how they respond. To give serious consideration to the words they use, because if we're not careful, they may be sliced, diced, and twisted; they can be used out of context and that which is sent out with good intentions can be spun and thrown back in a negative light.

Please take a breathe before responding in anger.

M
I agree...we don't want them "those against David" to have any ammo to bash those of US that are supporting him.  The more upstanding attitude we keep giving, and sticking COMPLETELY to the facts the less 'they' can lash out against David's supporters.  Which lets face it, seems we are a LOT more in numbers than what 'they' have backing them!  Follow me?

I've not read all the comments on here yet, is there a place we can read that paper in English?

Also, those of us that are tempted to write and lash back, keep it a temptation...'they' are not worth your finger energy to type back.  (unless you do private finger excercises, towards Rio?)
Give MORE these:hug:  & LESS these :argue:

I couldn't agree more! You know, I keep a picture in my mind of David and Sean together, in their boat in NJ, in a sunny summer day. We'll se that, hopefully soon.

About this people, specially the Ribeiro family, it's clear now that what happened in the first place, the kidnapping, was not an "accident". It's an MO.

Bruna could have done everything right, asked the divorce, negociated the custody and moved one to be happy the way she wanted, nothing against that. But the wrong way would be so much easier, if just David kept his mouth shut and acted like the script they wrote.

Now they have an in-law that is just their mate. No respect for other people's rights, no empathy for third parties feelings. They are all together as long as they have a common enemy and a unique battle.

What will happen after that?

What wil happen when JPLS decides it's time to move one and he's ready to build a new life with a new wife? Will his in-laws "accept" this? What will be their role in this hypotetical new phase? He already showed that blood relation means nothing when it means he's not going to get what he wants.

I don't know how much americans in this discussion know about JPLS' family. I mean, previous to this s.... I read something Roger well wrote some time ago, but I don't know how many of you read. They are really respected in Brazil. Or, they were respected. They are throwing through the window a family name built in many decades, maybe more.

They can try to manipulate public opinion and keep this campaign as long as they want, but they know for sure what their peers think about it. I think right now they are in denial, in the heat of the moment. In a couple of years from now they will realize the craziness they jumped into. I believe there is already some akwarness between them because one "daddy's boy" broke their image.

I see a lot of darkness and sadness in their future. This is something that belongs to them.

David already showed how nobel he is. This is something that belongs to David. Let's keep that in mind and picture David and Sean together, in a new life, away of all this madness.

Is important to keep in mind that every history has two sides. The USA only know David's side, but nobody even care to find out why she left her husband. For every married couple out there, I'm sure that you'all agrre with me that no one leaves if it's a happy marriage.
And nobody care to ask Sean, what he wants. For what I've heard on the Brazilian news, he doesn't want to come back to US.

Please read more about this case - it is not disputing the end of a marriage, but the right to be with your child. And comments about Sean not wanting to come to the U.S. is purely heresay.

There are 2 sides to every story, but none of it really matters. The only thing that matters is Bruna left with Sean on false pretenses (vacation) and Brazil's government did not act accordingly under the rules of the Hague Treaty. Period.

We should NOT be here today discussing this. In 2004, there should have been an arrangement made under the NJ courts and that didn't happen. Now that Bruna has unfortunately passed away, David has EVERY legal right to be with his son. End of story; we don't need to know anything more than that.

The problems in their marriage has nothing to do with Sean being kidnapped and wrongly retained in Brazil. If she was so unhappy, why couldn't she be woman enough to face David in the US instead of lying her way out of the situation. Her last words/symbol to him in the US was I love you!

Moving on....I'm not sure Sean knows what he wants and for the Brazilian media to report that is just WRONG! Heaven only knows what he has been told for the past 4.5 years; he hasn't even been allowed to have contact with his father. He may have few memories of living in the US, but whose fault is that - his mothers, God Rest Her Soul. She illegally removed him from his home and birth country. It will be difficult, no doubt, for Sean to start over in the US, but he is, afterall, DAVID'S SON...Not Joao Paulo's, he has his own child, Chiara, to raise....Not Bruna's parents - they have already raised their children....it's now DAVID'S TIME TO RAISE HIS CHILD.

Okay, I'm going to starting ranting, so I'll hush. :madgo:

Sorry Caroltins...my anger isn't directed at you, but it is a highly emotional case.
"Every parent who has a child and they tuck him in at night, or her in at night, and they wish the best and only the best and they will always protect the child and do whatever they can, but most of the time they don't have to prove it. I'm in the proving grounds, to myself and to my child.  I have to get him home and I will do whatever I have to. I'll never stop to save him."  --David Goldman

You are so right Bree...David has the right to raise his child NOT the stepfather or grandparents!!!  It does not matter what happened between Bruna and David!  David and Sean are father and son and they should be together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are wrong. It is you who does not care to find out the facts.

Bruna committed a crime. Plain and simple. Her rights or possible unhappiness pertain to only HER OWN relationship with David, not Sean's. A mother can leave the child's father, but they are NOT the one to decide to take the child away and prevent them from having a relationship with a loving parent, which can be extremely damaging to a child. Sean was born and raised in NJ and it is the courts in NJ who should have had legal authority to preside over a custody hearing. The minute she took Sean abroad under false pretenses (vacation), she placed her child in a terrible position. Any parent who does not distinguish the relationship of them with their partner, from their children and their partner is irresponsible and downright selfish.

As for what the Brazilian news is saying, if you cannot post a direct source, what you are saying is merely a "rumor" and they are not welcome on this board.

Since you want to consider "other sides", have you considered how Sean would feel, if he was to remain in Brazil, without a relationship with David, and gets old enough to read the news stories online and realize what was going on throughout his childhood? Imagine the damage when he sees the years his real father spent fighting for him and all the while, the people he loved and trusted were keeping a loving parent from his life and spreading lies about him? That damage will be FAR worse than the readjustment Sean will experience as an 8 year old moving back to the U.S. Im sure any young child who has a seemingly happy, fun, comfortable life where they are, would say they wanted to stay there, if asked. Who wouldn't? That does not mean it is the best thing for him or that he would not be happier somewhere else. Most importantly, in the long run, if Sean is kept from his biological father, when he learns the truth as an adult who can understand the full situation, he will look back on his "happy" childhood and see that he was completely deceived. If you want to consider Sean's interests, think about his future as well, not just today.
