EMERGENCY: Translations needed
« on: March 08, 2009, 02:16:43 PM »
In anticipation of the Fantastico show tonigt, Sunday, I need volunteers to translate several paragraphs from different documents as well the complete text of Patricia Apy's reply to Joao Pauol's open letter.
I know that is a big job, perhaps 2, 3, or 4 people could translate sections. The original response by Patricia Apy is located here:
http://bringseanhome.org/apy.html

Paragraphs from different documents:

1:
STUNNING DEVELOPMENT: Patricia E. Apy, attorney for David Goldman has replied to  an open letter written by João Paulo Lins e Silva. Ms. Apy's response has been  sent to all Brazilian media. For the first time Ms. Apy discloses the true events  as they occurred, the false sworn statements made by Bruna Bianchi Rebeiro  Goldman to the Brazilian judiciary, witholding of legal documents, secret court  filings, and the truth in the relationship between her and João Paulo Lins e  Silva. Full text of the Memoradum by Patricia E.  Apy

2: We invite you to read an open letter from David detailing the  abduction, the parties involved, and continuing denial of his parental rights by  the Brazilian judicial system. David's Story was  forwarded to us from Brazil on September 20th. Since that date David has gone  back to Brazil and although he had a Brazilian Federal Court Order to meet his  son for the first time in four years he was again denied when the boy was taken  away and hidden. It was not till February of this year, after the personal help  of US Congressman Christopher Smith of New Jersey that David was allowed to meet  his son, he was permitted just six hours after four long years.

Bob, I wouldn't use an online translator....they're full of mistakes and incorrect interpretations.

I'm sorry I can't be of much help. I don't write portuguese well and there are a lot of technical words and legal jargon used in Patricia Apy's text. If you ever need anything translated from portuguese to english I can definitely be of help.

Here is the first part of Patricia's letter. I know we don't have much time but if someone sees something which has not been well translated, please let me know. It was not an easy piece to translate, as I'm not at all familiar with the terminology used by Patricia.

Patricia E. Apy
Advogada de David Goldman
Paras, Apy & Reiss, P.C.
Red Bank, Nova Jersey

Patricia Apy's Open Letter Translation

"Hague Petition
The allegation of International Parental Abduction, as Mr. Lins e Silva well knows, was filed immediately with the United States Department of State and transmitted to the Central Authority of Brazil on September 3, 2004, 46 days after Sean was abducted, and only after the return plane tickets for Sean and his mother had gone unused, and constant entreaties of Mr. Goldman to secure Bruna’s voluntary return were ignored. Attached to it was the order requiring Bruna to voluntarily return. Had the facts, as alleged by Mr. Lins e Silva been as compelling as described, there would have been no difficulty obtaining permission to relocate with Sean to Brazil. Mrs. Goldman was unwilling to subject her proofs to cross examination, or to permit them to be subjected to scrutiny at the location of the evidence in New Jersey where the parties lived, where Sean went to school, and where these allegations would be immediately contradicted by witnesses living with this family. The judicial filing of the Hague Petition was properly before the Brazilian Federal Court seeking the return of Sean, was made on November 17, 2004. Mr. Goldman did not go to a law office in Sao Paulo as described, (implying he neglected to visit Sean). Indeed, he pursued his remedies, as required under the Treaty (i.e. Hague Convention on Civil Aspects of International child abduction), through the assistance of the diplomatic offices of both of these countries, and counsel arranged in Brazil. "

Petição a Hague

I'm trying my best. Please feel free to add more and tweak it if needed. More to come.

Mauro Ventura, the journalist who first published JPLS's letter, is saying he will happily publish a letter from David if he personally sends him one. I guess once we're finished with translating Patricia's letter, Bob can take care of contacting the guy?
