Message to Lula
Grace:
Excelentissimo presidente Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva:
Dear President Lula:
As a Brazilian citizen and mother, I urge you through this email to support David Goldman, the father of Sean Goldman who lost his mother last October in Rio de Janeiro. The boy lives with his step-father and his maternal grandparents, and his father has fought incessantly to restore custody of his son and have him back with him in his home in New Jersey.
Presidente, voce tambem eh pai.
Mr. President, you are also a father. You must know how the love we feel for our children is unconditional. Imagine your son or daughter in another country living without his mother, when you are alone and willing to raise them and give them the love they deserve. Imagine the pain and feelings of impotence in a situation that should be very simple: the mother died, let me go get my child and help him or her recover from the loss of his mother.
Presidente, use empatia neste caso.
Mr. President, please use empathy in this case. Put yourself in the father's position. They say Sean is well adapted to Rio and he life he has now, but this does not mean that a father should be deprived of raising his son, especially when this father is a loving father and has the conditions to give him a quality life. I also moved to another country with my family when I was young and I adapted very easily, like most children do.
Therefore Mr. President, do not leave this in the hands of the Brazilian justice system. The judiciary power is slow and not tuned in to the reality. You can and must make a difference.
Respeitosamente,
Respectfully,
Grace

Please remember to mention that there are now over 50 cases from the United States to Brazil representing over 60 children, not to mention those from other countries (Canada, France, Australia) that I know of so far.
Teena:
Great letter! I agree with Tweinstein, if you have not sent the letter please mention the other children. Not only will it help the other parents but it also adds to the fact that this is a serious problem.
