e-mail to SOS Clinton

I just sent my e-mail to SOS Clinton.  Thanks for the explicit instructions on how to do so rlw.mom.  Like everything else the US Gov't does, that was not intuitive!

This is what I sent to the Department of State.

The situation that has occurred with Sean Goldman is despicable. The Secretary should make it a priority to rectify this situation or move forward with some warnings to the public about our relationship with that country. If we cannot rely on Brazil to honor our treaties, than there should be warnings to the public about the preservation of their human rights while visiting that country. Maybe the Brazillian governement needs to be reminded of the financial support provided to their country by the United States. We supply millions of tourism dollars a year to their economy and their thanks is to allow one of their citizens to kidnap an American child. Unacceptable. Start your tenure off with a strong message. Fix this injustice and send a message that you will not stand by while the rights of American citizens are trampled by a supposed friend to the United States. With friends like this, who needs enemies. Understand that we are talking about an American child being taken from his father, his only living blood parent. Think about that. Let it emotionally affect you and then take the action that you would take if it were your son, daughter, neice, or nephew. Please act quickly. Time is the enemy to this child. He is being robbed of his childhood every day. Once it is gone, it is gone. You cannot get one second that is gone back. You cannot unring a bell.

i know this is a little off the subject, but i have been wondering... Remember Elian Gonzalez?  Cuba fought to get him back to his father after his mother drowned off the coast of Florida.   Why is the US not fighting more for Sean??? any comments? The majority of Americans believed it was right to send him back to his father (I know this case is different for many reasons, but on a human level, father-to-son, it is the same)

Hello, Thank you for the link, letter written.  I have written so many.....I know they are being read, but it is taking so long.  It would be nice to feel these e-mails we are sending are making a difference.
I keep sending them, I thought Sean would be home by now.
This situation just is so frustrating, Sean should be home!

anna42 - To contact the US Secreatry of State Clinton, click on
http://contact-us.state.gov/

Then click on the purple tab (next to the red tab) that states "E-mail a question or a comment"

Then under the "additional information" selection on that page (half way down the screen)- pull down and select "Secretary of State"

Then I would write "Dear US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton" in the main box... and send her a letter.

Leave it to government websites and forms to be un-user-friendly.
Good luck!

I live in Miami and remember the Elian Gonzalez case.  I think the main difference there was that the US did want to return him to his father and do the right thing. It was his extended family here who wanted to keep him.  I think government agents armed had to force themselves into the house in the middle of the night and take him from his aunt.

Yes, the US govt forcibly removed him from his aunt's house in order to return him to his father... (although it is debatable whether or not that was the right way to go about it)... I wonder if the Brazilian govt would be willing to do the same to return Sean to David?  I guess not...

I remember the Gonzales case as well. In a September 2005 interview with 60 Minutes after being sent back to Cuba, Elián stated that during his stay in the U.S., his family members were "telling me bad things about [my father]," and "were also telling me to tell him that I did not want to go back to Cuba, and I always told them I wanted to." It makes me wonder what the Lins and Silva are telling Sean.
