Sorry to start this new topic for NJ members. Please provide a status update on the responses from NJ Congressmen/women so far. Non-NJ members are also welcome to this to give us ideas and direction on what we can do differently to reach out to our congressmen to co-sponsor bill H.R. 3240. I'm a novice to reaching out to calling congress to help out .. but I just feel more NJ congressmen should co-sponsor the bill and support Chris Smith's H.R 3240. Anyway,I've been e-mailing and calling Congressman John Adler from the 3rd district. Today, his office from Marlton, NJ called me and gave me his number in Washington DC. I called that number and gave them my message about co-sponsoring the bill. They said they will pass the message on to Mr. Adler... (yeah right!). Anyway I got thru his Wash DC office. Anybody else from NJ (or admit to being from NJ ) have anything to add? I'll be willing to call a congressman outside of my district too (I'll try Congressman Rob Andrews from the 1st district tomorrow). Thanks for letting me babble on.. I

Only one NJ congressman has co-sponsored the bill so far.. Am I correct  NJ has 13 districts and Chris Smith authored it. So we need 11 more from NJ to listen to us?

Phillyone, I just started a thread where we can list the congressmen/women Facebook pages that allow posting (not all do allow it). I've only posted three so far from NY but please add what you can for the NJ Reps, and perhaps we can get BSHF members to start in on posting. I know I'll get on it. Here is the link to the thread that I started. http://bringseanhome.org/forums/index.php/topic,2925.0.htmlPam

You're welcome. What I like about Facebook is that you don't need to be one of their constituents and perhaps people actually do read the pages.

It is a very good question. The answer his staff will give you is that he has introduced his own legislation on this issue.

I got the following letter from John Adler my congressman in 3rd district NJ: Thank you for contacting me regarding child safety. I share your views , and I appreciate you taking the time to express your concerns.
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Saftety Reauthorization Act (H.R 1422) would reauthorize grant programs that help kids safe from sexual predators. As a father of four children, I understand that we must enact laws that will protect our children. As a Member of Congress, keeping our children safe is one of my highest priorites. Currently, this legislation has been referred to the House Commitee Judiciary, and I stongly urge its passage.
Thank you again for writing with your concerns and please continue to stay connected with my office on other issues and future legislation.Oh Boy! am I ready to pull my hair out!!!! Well, at least it's good to know that he want to protect children... BUT HE"S GOT THE WRONG H.R. LAW!!!! Back to the drawing board and start calling him all over again!!!

Thanks for sharing this info! I guess the bottom line is it all has to do with politics. It is democrats vs. republicans (unfortunately) and the dems want their own take on this.

I've tried finding a Facebook page for him but all I could come up with is Alder For Congress The last post was a month ago so I don't even know if he would still be reading this. Ohhhhhhh if only I lived in your district. I do have an idea. If you want to send me a PM of the local papers in his district, I'd be happy to send in some letters to the editor. I don't know if they would make it to print being from NY but I'd at least try. Didn't you mention that he is the congressman for David's district? Pam

I have the same problem here in Texas with Kay Granger. I speak of H.R. 3240 and she responds about resolutions that were from last year! Then her rep said she felt the best way for her to help was to not cosponsor at this time! I got the following letter from John Adler my congressman in 3rd district NJ: Thank you for contacting me regarding child safety. I share your views , and I appreciate you taking the time to express your concerns.

Well, I started the process all over again by contacting Mr. Adler's Washington DC office today. Pam, just to let you know, I'm in the 3rd district of NJ and my congressman is John Adler. David (I think ) is in the 12th district about an hour from me and his congressman is Rush Holt.
Anyway, it would be great (if you have the time) if you could post your articles in our local papers. I have no idea how to do that. The mainsteam papers here are the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Courier Post (South Jersey paper). Also, the Trentonian Times (this is the newspaper of the capital). It would be great if you could at least get the message out in the capital city newspaper.. even if one of the NJ congressman reads it, it would be worth it!!! That is if you have time...give it a shot.
Like I said, I have no idea what it takes to get an article in the newspapers.
