Glendene Grant BlogTalkRadio Show: June 19, 2012
« on: June 20, 2012, 08:55:36 AM »
David Goldman and Stephen Watkins were guests on Glendene Grant's BlogTalkRadio Show last night. For those of you not familiar with Glendene, her daughter Jessie Foster -- an international endangered missing woman and the victim of human trafficking -- disappeared from North Las Vegas, Nevada between March 28th and April 3rd, 2006 (http://www.jessiefoster.ca/).
David was originally scheduled to appear in the first hour of the show, with Stephen scheduled to appear in the second hour. However, about 18 minutes into the show, Stephen joins the conversation and an exchange begins between David, Stephen and Glendene. In the next hour, a few other callers joined the call - Trisha, a Calgary attorney, and Gregory, another Calgary-based left-behind parent - and made some great additions to the conversation.
THEN, in the second hour (around 74 minute mark), Stephen's wife (the abductor) called in and was permitted to join the show. For the next 30 minutes, she attempts to disparage and discredit Stephen. While she willingly acknowledges that she illegally removed the children from Canada, claiming that it was out of necessisty, she refuses to acknowledge any responsiblity for her actions and repercussions on herself and the children. She attempts to present herself as a victim and attempts to deflect all negativity onto Stephen and even onto David.
Kudos to Stephen for refusing to engage in her attack and kudos to both Stephen and David for their handling of an unfortunate and most difficult situation.

Thanks to David for talking about Mexico..

When the abducting mother called in, Glendene was great in the way she refused to gloss over the LBP's tremendous pain and the fact that the abductor was the one who directly and intentionally caused it.  Far too often this torture is glossed over or paid homage to with some sort of condescending nod by someone who pretends to understand what it feels like but then proceeds to immediately dismiss it as not relevant as we must focus on the needs of the child and not the parents.  It is impossible to believe that someone who cares about children, and the importance of them having healthy, functional parents in their lives, could summarily dismiss the fact that one of those parents has been baptised by fire and subjected to a form of cruel and unusual torture that I would not wish upon my worst enemy, by precisely the other parent, and then proceed to determine the child's best interests as though it never happened!  It's impossible to divorce the health and well-being of parents from the best interests of their children and attacks on parents should be viewed as attacks on their children as well -- especially when it's the very children who have been converted into weapons to be used in that attack.

Mr Watkins has waged a long term campaign to find and be with his children that is nothing short of inspiring (and exhausting just to think about much less imitate,) but I think he responded poorly to her questions, in particular her asking why he never calls them.  I do not doubt that he'd love to speak with his children and that there are good reasons for him not calling (if that's even true,) in particular repairing relationships that have been interrupted for years, even without the added poison of parental alienation, requires tact and care and cannot be forced or pushed.  Every interaction between the LBP and their children also gives the abductor a new opportunity to spin that interaction in a malicious way that further alienates the children from the LBP.  It's unfortunate that, as LBP's we must all become media, political and social activists in the fight for our children.  We must learn (if not perfect,) and successfully apply, the rules of rhetoric, writing, campaigning and arguing, not to mention learning domestic, foreign and international systems of law but there is no one else that will do it.   We must do it ourselves or it won't get done.  Everything we say or do can and will be used against us and, if we have the added "privilege" of being born male, we are far too often presumed guilty before we even say a word.  All this we must do even as the chains of depression, pain and frustration make it a daily mission to get up in the morning.

Stephen wife  said on the Radio talk show   that she was the children parent and David  rightly reminded her that Stephen was also  their parent.
David and Stephen both did a good job on the interview.
