Bossa Nova
« on: April 01, 2009, 05:41:25 PM »
I love Brazilian music - especially bossa nova.  Desafinado is one my favorite songs.  It's beautiful music, soft and seductive like a balmy night in Rio.  The Girl from Ipanema is not just a great song, it symbolizes the lifestyle of Brazil.  Diana Krall's new album will feature several Jobim songs including Garota de Ipanema.  Bossa nova is like a summer love affair you never want to end....:)

Diana Krall is on YouTube promoting her new album called Quiet Nights.  It's an interview about 8 minutes long with concert footage in Brazil.  It's subtitled in Portuguese.  Her voice is a perfect fit for bossa nova.

Here are more singers - Astrud Gilberto, Bebel Gilberto and Gal Costa.  Thank god for Diana Krall.  All you hear these days is crap.  I will let you know when I get her new CD.

Try to find : Yamandś Costa; Scott Feiner & Pandero Jazz with his wonderful CD ''Dois Mundos" (two wolds); Cartola; and Pixinguinha. They are some of my local favorites.

Above is a clip from Diana Krall's concert footage in Rio.  The audience sings right along with her in Portuguese.  It's very moving.

Sashia,

Thanks for sharing the Yo Yo Ma clip.  Music is truly international.  I love Garota de Ipanema.  It's timeless and one of the most beautiful love songs ever written.  Diana's voice is perfect for this song.
