Title: Tech Support - Question
Post by: Hanna on February 25, 2009, 10:43:11 PM
Every time one clicks on the forum link and clicks on the subject they want to read about or comment, instead of being able to read the latest comments one has to go to the last page every time. Could you make it so you'd read from most recent to last? I think it would make more sense and it would be more helpful.
Thank you,

Trust me I've been operating Message Board Forums for +10 years, reversing the order of posts would create a firestorm of complaints. The system is designed as a thread of comments for people to read in chronological order so they can follow along. Reverse order makes it totally confusing.

Anyone can use the "Forum Tools"  or "Thread Tools" to subscribe and receive instant, daily or weekly automatic updates by email.

You can also use RSS feeds for both the Forums and Blog.
1: Mozilla Firefox - you should see the RSS logo on the far right side of the URL address panel. Just click and subscribe.

2: Internet Explorer: The orange RSS feed button is normally next to the Home button. If its not showing on your PC simply go the Forums main page, then select from the IE menu, Tools > Feed Discovery > bringseanhome.org.

3: Apple Safari: same as Firefox.

By the way I work on both PC's and MACS; on both I use the Mozilla Firefox browser. It is a thousand times better than Internet Explorer and Safari. Plus its faster and can be totally customized with different themes and hundreds, maybe thousands of plug ins. Best of all its free! http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Bob, I'm new to forums in general. Is there a way to report abuse here? What's with the "valium no prescription post"?

That was a "spammer" they are all over the place. I installed a list of 1,650 known spammers email addresses and 300 IP numbers into the database but they are hard to keep up with. They multiple faster rabbits or a better analogy is they are harder to eliminate than cockroaches.

Most of the spammers are actually hackers and one should NEVER click on a link they have posted. Your PC may be get infected by a Worm or Virus.

Unfortunately most of these hackers are from Eastern Europe, the Russian Federation, Korea or China and register in the middle of the night. Once they are 'exposed' we not only ban them but also ban their email address and IP number so they cannot easily re-register.

(http://bringseanhome.org/forum/images/buttons/report.gif)That small red triangle is displayed on the right hand side of each post in the green top border. To report a post just click on it and an email is sent to the Administrators and Moderators.

It seems that after a period of time, we lose the ability to edit our posts. After seeing that you can add pictures to our posts, I wanted to put pictures up for my case as well as Reilly's and Birotte's. However, I can't get in any more. Is there something that I should do or is it something you need to do?

On the other Forum I operate you can edit a post within 5 minutes.
Here, I've set the system to allow you to edit your posts for up to 60 minutes.

If you want to add pictures or make a change after the time is expired you will need to add another post.

This is a security measure, I am really "pushing the envelope" here by going to 60 minutes.

If you write a post with a horrendous error that needs to be changed email me through the Contact Us link below or send a Private Message to username JMP. There are only two people (JMP & I) that can override the Edit settings. Please note that we do not monitor the Forums or Blog 24 x 7 so you may have to wait. I get an automatic email each time someone posts in this Forum but I get about 750 emails a day. :(

Hi Bob,

As I did my minute of silence today, I felt very drawn by the image in the picture of David hugging Sean while he was holding a football, while visiting down in Brazil. They both looked so connected and so happy! Are we allowed to have that picture on the site? If yes, I wonder if it is possible to have it pasted under my invitation to hold a silence/positive thought for them everyday at 7 p.m.. A visual image truly helps us to focus on what we want to envision. Thanks.  :D

Is there any way some of the existing threads can be clustered or collapsed? I haven't been able to spend as much time on the Forum the past week due to some urgent issues, and trying to reintegrate myself into the latest BSH news has been a little confusing. It seems that some threads and topics are "wandering" and others have become more dispersed or redundant.

This is in NO way a criticism. I think it's a natural evolution because so many people are concerned and want to speak out and do something. It might be helpful to have some kind of thread "roadmap" or archive as the Forum continues to expand. I don't have the technical savvy/experience to know what's even possible...& don't mean to be presumptuous. Just a thought...

I'd suggest hitting the new post button on the top after you log on.
This may help you too see what you missed rather then wading through all the forums and threads that you already have read with nothing new added.;)

They re-direct to the appropriate forum. Occasionally they are moved to the administration forum for discussion.

Administering and Moderating this site is quite a task, new moderators have been directed to move threads that they consider questionable, or are unsure how to deal with to the administration forum.

We ask your patience and understanding, we have recently been deluged with complaints on what some people consider "objectionable" posts. Some of our recently promoted moderators are dedicated to the cause but completely new to the nuances of effective moderation.

We all start somewhere and these "Newbie" moderators are doing their very best in a completely voluntary difficult "job". The "Old Timers" are learning them to give a much needed hand!

Thank You so much for your understanding, participation in and dedication to this noble cause!

Bob and / or Teena,
Can  you tell me how I can change my user name?  So totally unimportant, but months later I am still the corny twoboysmommy and would like to be known just as Christine.  I thought this was a short-term forum when I first signed up... and here we are months later and probably will be for a very long time...
I have searched the user CP for a way to do this but did not come up with anything.  I remember seeing one other member had changed usernames.

Thanks very much,
Christine

Is there any way I can delete one of my posts?   Re: #14 on "My Daddy is waiting for Me"?

It doesn't make sense now that the thread has been modified.  (Sorry...I got a little carried away in the spirit of the moment!)

If not, please delete it for me (the full paragraph).  Thanks!!

Hanna, I know for sure your last thread was deleted by an admin b/c it already existed in another thread. I am not sure about the first one but it was probably for a similar reason. If a post or thread is ever deleted due to any violation rules or regulations you would be notified. I am sorry for any confusion.
Thank you for your support!
Teena

Same with the other - I merged it into an already existing thread on the same topic.

Yes - the Early Show thread was deleted by your's truly because it had been introduced already in another thread.  Sorry - I usually PM someone when I do that; but I was whipped at the time and forgot to send you a message.  Apologies and thanks for your support!

Hi--I have two items...

(1) Can any member start a new thread, and if so, how?
(2) Please start a thread, if appropriate, to post this article from the NJ Star-Ledger...MEDIA, June 28:
http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/jersey/index.ssf?/base/news-14/1246194315288340.xml&coll=1

There are gut-wrenching quotes from David we haven't seen before:
Goldman denies that, saying that when he is able to speak to his son, the child begs him to come back with Goldman.
 ...
"When I'm able to visit him we're trapped in a common area in a condo," Goldman said adding that someone is posted nearby to monitor them and that person often is recording the conversation. "
My son left there crying, screaming, missing me," he said.

Sorry to bother you with this if there's an easy way to do it myself!

Hi Shar,

1. Anyone can start a new thread. When you are on a main page of any forum, there's a button at the top of the page (just above the list of threads) called "New Thread." We do ask, however, that you not start a new thread for a topic already being discussed or is suitable for discussion in a thread that's already been started. (For example, a new news story should be posted in the media coverage thread for that day and not in it's own separate thread.)

2. This news story was posted to nj.com last night and it posted in the Media Coverage thread from yesterday. However, I see that they've updated the date to reflect it as a news story from today. I'll start the media thread for today and put it at the top in case there are others who haven't seen it.

Thanks!

M.

Thanks for all the info, M.Capestro!  (I missed the article on BSH last night in the other thread...Just received it on a Google alert and wanted to be sure it was out there for all.)

Another question...I guess it's obvious I don't belong to a lot of forums!

When I go to my CP, I can view the emails I received from other members; and I can click on the ones to which I replied and read my replies.  My INBOX correctly states the number of emails received.

But when I click to view my SENT items,  none appear; and it says I've sent 0 (incorrect).

I just sent a PM to another member.  I can't find that one either.

Thanks for any advice!
