BRAZILIAN PRESIDENT SAYS "GRINGOS" MUST PAY TO SAVE THE AMAZON
« on: November 28, 2009, 09:38:02 AM »
Well, now you can add blackmail along with the kidnapping of children to the list of crimes allowed by the Brazilian government...

Apparently, Lula sees POTUS as very weak.

The speech was pure rhetoric and no one should pay  much attention. Lula has one more year in the office (by Jan 2011 he will leave)  and he is seemly pushing his government to the left of the political spectrum,  in a sales pitch to his candidate, Dilma Rousseff.

Dilma Rousseff. BTW was a compatriot of Guta's. They were both involved in the coup together. Dilma of late has been accused of being party to kidnapping during that time, of a BrazilianTreasury Minister, Delfim Netto which she denies and says is false, as "there was no kidnapping".....hmmmm sounds familiar doesn't it?

She was however in thick with Guta, as a member of the Marxist revolutionary group that planned and kidnapped the U.S.Ambassador to Brazil,Charles Elbrick

Which reminds me, now that it has been discovered that the whole "global warming" was a farce I guess we dont have to pay for any of that.

I have read that he is the father of the new moderate left in Latin America. His policies seem to be working as Brazil is enjoying it's biggest boom in years.  I think he is a man though of his generation. The Castro loving left that Brazil's former military rulers slaughterd wholesale in the 1960's and 70's. But I think Lula is smart enough to know that era is gone and he knows if Brazil is to reach it's potential moderation is needed but he slips once in a while, like the time he said that white people are to blame for the financial crisis.

I do know that this forum is not for politics, but  I have to reply...

Lula is the luckiest Brazilian President, ever. The  former president (Fernando Cardoso) implemented social and economic reforms that  eliminated the endless cycles of hyper-inflation, re-evaluated the currency and  leveraged the industrial and agricultural activities. But the reform didn't come  without a price. The country was deeply hit by the mid 90s crises in Asia and  Russia, and in 1999 had to devaluated the currency Real. But when Lula took  office in 2003 the problems were gone and the economy was settled and growing.  Better yet, from 2003 until 2008 the world experienced an enormous boom in  general trade, mainly in commodities, something that benefited Brazil greatly.  Lula is still reaping his lucky strike.

What do you mean by the "wholesale slaughter"? From  1964 to 1979 (15 years) the military regime ruled and the repression was tough.  But according to several human rights organizations, including the International  Amnesty, the total number of people killed by the underground forces would go  around 800, surely less than 1,000. Although even one single death is a huge and  inexcusable loss, nevertheless it is not correct to call it a  slaughter.

Ah, the corruption in Brazil - if you're powerful (like the maternal grandparents/relatives) and have friends in high places, you can tie the legal system up in knots - literally - for years, and to H-e-ll with International Law; not to mention what has happened to David Goldman, the REAL father of Sean - I hope that David and Sean can now live in peace.  Hopefully, our "leaders" in the US will not soon forget this travesty foisted on David Goldman by the Brazilian "System" - but I'm not holding my breath...

Was the Brazilian Supreme Court, the so called Brazilian System, as you said, the responsible to David have Sean back home today!

I WANT that Dilma and Delfim Netto go to the closest black hole and stay there for the rest of his life!

Can you please give me the source of this news?
It sounds strange, because Lula to use the word GRINGO is not usual.
It is a expression most common in other idioms.

It says that americans soldiars  used green uniform and so the native people
used to say GREEN GO home, and this words comes from there.

Yes...to your question about the Brazilian Supreme Court:

"On Tuesday, Supreme Court Chief Justice Gilmar Mendes ruled that Sean should be turned over to David Goldman in a decision that appeared to bring the case in line with international custody accords."
