The case of Sean Goldman has cast a light on the cruel and inhumane practice of International Child Abduction and the weak enforcement of the tenets of the Hague Convention.
The only flaw in this discussion has been the public and the medias overall misconception that it rarely happens and that Brazil is the worst offender.
As stated previously, Mexico holds that dubious honor and since the day my grandson was abducted to that country, I have read of dozens of tragic cases which parallel the case of Sean. Sadly when the parents are not in a position to spend a LOT of money, their cases fall under the rug/ radar of all those paid to enforce this law, the media and the public. Until Sean's mother died, his father was ignored too, even though, he was spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, and using every resource available to him.
I am the heartbroken grandmother of Sage Bermudez. The grief and frustration our family has suffered is similar to the death of a child. My son has made heroic efforts, working alone, to obtain his return. He will return for the third time to a court hearing in Mexico, the first week of April.
He is not rich. He has huge student loans, and he has committed everything to the immense love he has for this little boy. He has been doing this alone, without the support of his congress person, without the media spotlight, and sadly without allies of any kind, other than a very well paid attorney.
I would ask all those working on the effort to Bring Sean home to make this about ALL the suffering parents and children, who are, in this tragic situation. The difficulty faced by Sean's father even with the massive publicity, diplomatic aid, this excellent forum, the media, etc, demonstrate, the uphill battle all the parents left behind, face. Thank you for generously sharing this forum, and the chance to advocate for Sage. Diane
